CURRENT EXHIBITION

The Influencers: Robert Blair, Thomas Curtin, and Charles Movalli

September 18 - October 3 and October 16 - November 3, 2024  | Sugarhouse Gallery

The Influencers invites viewers in to explore the distinct lives and styles of three artists whose efforts furthered the landscape painting practice in the Jeffersonville area: Robert Blair, Thomas Curtin, and Charles Movalli. As teachers, all three artists not only worked to capture the “spark of nature” in the Vermont countryside, but ignited a passion for the practice in the next generation. Whether it was sharing tips and techniques, exploring new locations, or documenting Vermont ways of life, Blair, Curtin, and Movalli were, as Jane says, the original influencers.

With special thanks to Bruce Blair, Elizabeth Knudsen, and Dale Ratcliff.

The Sport of the Spirit: Finding A Line in the Landscape

July 26 - September 15, 2024  | Sugarhouse Gallery

In Jeffersonville, Vermont, artists and outdoor recreationists alike look for their line in the landscape, be it a view, a trail, or a ride. Oftentimes, that means that the two identities overlap in their paths, treading the same roads and fields in search of an ephemeral feeling that can only be found in the outdoors. The “Sport of the Spirit” unites these two perspectives through the locations and views that often transfix both identities, celebrating the mutual appreciation and care cultivated by such practices.

PAST EXHIBITION

Martha Ohliger:

A Solo Exhibition

July - September, 2024  | Carriage House Gallery

Born and raised in St. Albans, Martha Ohliger is a lifetime Vermont resident whose still life paintings invoke the landscape spirit, and vice versa. Using traditional oils and a realistic style, her depictions of ordinary outdoor scenes and household goods are a reflection of the family values and integrity that she believes are the essence of Vermont. These detailed vignettes embody family connections between generations and the cherished goods and spaces that create these links, or in Martha’s own words, “a reminder that the rural character of Vermont never prevented people from appreciating beauty as well as function.”
